Softball Improving As Season Progresses

The Rust College softball program may not have the results it desires on the scoreboard, but Head Coach Kendrick Vivians likes what he sees from his ladies.

"My girls are improving individually," Coach Vivians exclaimed, "They are just waiting to gel together as a team."

Ayanna Williams got the Lady Bearcats on the board first in the second game of its doubleheader at Stillman on Sunday afternoon, grounding into a fielder's choice in the top of the opening frame to bring home Roniyah Campbell.

Haley Weatherspoon picked up a base hit in both of the contests, breaking up the Lady Tigers' no-hit bid in game two, going 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases.

JB Bennett also reached base safely once in each ballgame, smacking a single in the opener before coaxing a free pass in the nightcap.

Amya Sampson was credited with a single and a steal, Taliyah Griffin got herself a base knock, and the duo of Di'Nya Reed plus Jonae' Francois drew walks.

RC will take the next nine days off before hosting the Talladega Tornadoes on the final day of February, a Tuesday doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. at Sam Coopwood Park.
