Cats Snap Skid In Game Two, 12-Inning Win At Xavier (LA)

The Rust College baseball program took 24 days and five innings of free baseball into game two, but they finally got back that winning taste in their mouths, using a three-run seventh to send the game into extras before putting two on the board in the top of the 12th to win the nightcap, 11-9.

Khalil Robinson carried the Baseball Bearcats past the Gold Rush in the finale, crushing three home runs, a one-run shot in the fourth to tie it at three, a two-run long ball with the team down to its last out of the ballgame to tie the contest again at nine, then one final finishing blow in the form of yet another two-run bomb in the 12th frame to account for the winning runs. Robinson finished the afternoon with four hits, five RBIs, three round-trippers, four scores, and a walk.

Jalin Thomas had a memorable second matchup as well, crossing the plate three times, smashing a two-RBI dinger, a base knock, and a pair of walks.

Xavier Campbell and Devin Tallington had the team’s two inside-the-park extra-base hits, both doubles, combining for two hits, runs scored, RBIs, and walks while the latter pitched five innings to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

Brytan Sampson came on in the top of the fifth inning and assumed the role of super long reliever, pitching five innings of two-run baseball, striking out seven batters.

Jay Terrell (1.2) and Christian Hill (1.1) held down the fort in the 11th and 12th innings as Hill wound up being the winning pitcher.

Malik Berrien picked up ribbies in both tilts plus a steal in one and Jesse Burton III stole second twice in the same game following free passes.
