Captain Katie Johnson Ridley

Today for #WomensHistoryMonth we honor Captain Katie Johnson Ridley. Her commitment to serve others is strong, as she is both an educator and a law enforcement officer.

Captain Johnson Ridley currently serves as Captain of the Criminal Investigation Division for the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office.  Captain Johnson Ridley is a native of Coahoma County, MS.  She attended Coahoma Agricultural High School where she graduated with honors. After high school, she chose to study in the field of Criminal Justice. She began her law enforcement career 24 years ago, where she worked under the Criminal Justice Department Chair of Mississippi Valley State University as an assistant.  With intense studies in the area of Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminological Theory, and Advance Research Method, Captain Johnson Ridley earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 1999.  She also worked at Itta Bena Police Department where she studied law enforcement as an intern.  While studying and focusing on her degree, she worked as a Loss Prevention Officer with J. C. Penny in Greenwood, MS. 

While continuing her career in law enforcement, Captain Johnson Ridley decided that she wanted to become a police officer and was hired at Mississippi Valley State University.  

In 1998, Captain Johnson Ridley received Professional Law enforcement training with Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer Training Academy in Pearl Mississippi for 9 weeks.  She received Professional training with Mississippi Delta Law Enforcement Officer Training Academy for 10 weeks where she received her Professional Certification in Law Enforcement for the State of Mississippi.  In 1999, Johnson Ridley worked as a police officer with Jonestown Police Department. 

In 2003, Johnson Ridley joined Tunica County Sheriff Office as a Deputy Sheriff. She worked diligently, respectfully, and gracefully and in 2009, joined the criminal investigation division as an investigator.  Captain Johnson Ridley has also worked as a lieutenant within the Criminal Investigation Division.   In 2016, Captain Johnson Ridley earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice with honors, Magna Cum Laude, from Mississippi Valley State University. She has written numerous research papers, given numerous oral presentations, and had advanced studies in the field of Criminal Justice. 

Captain Johnson Ridley is also an educator with Coahoma County School District.  Besides being an educator, she has been recognized and honored by many organizations.  She served as an Ambassador with the Alliance for a Healthy Generation while trying to put a halt to childhood obesity.  She worked with the Tobacco Coalition for Coahoma County.  

Captain Johnson Ridley attended a luncheon as a guest to First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House in Washington, DC. She assisted with a documentary titled, “A Place at the Table”, recognizing hunger in small rural communities. She spent a week in Boston, Massachusetts for training at the Special Olympics grounds. Captain Johnson Ridley loves to travel, and most of all loves her career as a law enforcement officer.
