SPECIAL ELECTION
TUESDAY, MARCH 29, 2022
*The information contained below is not to persuade your vote one way or the other, but rather, to provide clarification on a couple of issues as it pertains to the vote.
• The Board of Education of the Tate County School District has called a special election to be held within the District to issue $7,000,000.00 in bonds.
• You, the citizens, will cast your vote either “FOR THE BOND ISSUE, OR AGAINST THE BOND ISSUE.”
• If approved, this could place up to 3.5 mills on your tax bill for the next 20 years.
• If the citizens do not approve the bond issue, and the Tate County School District does not ask for more funding to support the school district in the next budget year, then the 3.5 mills that is rolling off in June of 2022 will be returned to the citizens and thus decreasing your taxes next year.
• The Board of Supervisors is committed to implementing policies that will lower the tax millage rate.
• The Board of Supervisors cut Tate County’s millage rate 2.31 mills during this past budget.
• Over the past three years, individuals residing in Tate County and in the Tate County School District have seen their millage rate decrease from 152.52 to 136.81 providing citizens with a 15.71 mill tax break. (Each homeowner experienced a $157.10 decrease in taxes for every $100,000 in appraised value)
• A competitive millage rate is necessary to compete with our surrounding counties for residential, commercial, and industrial growth that will provide the funding necessary to support both county government and our local school districts.
• The Board of Supervisors is actively pursuing industry to locate to both the Tate County School District and the Senatobia Municipal School District that will provide the tax revenue necessary to support and grow both school districts without putting any additional tax burden on the citizens.
