The Coming Soon sign says it all!
The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors is preparing to build a new community park in Lewisburg. The 3+ acre park will be built on Craft Road across from Lewisburg Schools.
Supervisor Michael Lee and the Director of Parks & Greenways, Ray Laughter, took a look at the sign that was installed this afternoon. The park is currently in the design phase.
"People can buy a house anywhere. They make DeSoto County their home because of the quality of life here," said Supervisor Michael Lee. "The park will provide a safe and healthy place for kids and families to play, gather, and connect."
Lewisburg Park amenities will include a paved parking area, restrooms, gazebo with picnic tables, a walking trail, and an enclosed handicapped accessible covered playground.
"The park is a key piece of the Board of Supervisors plan to connect the Lewisburg Community," said Supervisor Lee.
The park's walking trail will connect to the grant funded Lewisburg Sidewalk Project currently under construction. It will also connect to sidewalks being added with the widening of Craft Road and the Hawks Crossing sidewalks throughout the neighborhood.
The Hawks Crossing's developer donated the land and funds for construction. A donation made by the group "Fight for Desoto" is paying for the design fees.
Construction is expected to begin this summer. Once complete, it will join seven other parks and a greenway constructed and maintained by DeSoto County.
