The Desoto County Sheriff's Department Junior Deputy Academy 2022 kicked off today. This week's class includes 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders from Lake Cormorant Elementary and Walls Elementary.
Our School Resource Officers know how important it is for law enforcement to build positive relationships with our youth at an early age. We want to thank all our sponsors who made this year's Academy possible. We will feature some sponsor information in future posts.
The class kicked off today with Major Henley swearing in the kids as Junior Deputies. SRO Zack Dickerson conducted a tour of the Sheriff's Office which included Communications, Fugitive, Detectives, etc. The Motor's Division put on a cool demonstration with their motorcycles. They heard from Agent Billy Royal who is on the hostage negotiations team. They also heard from Sgt. Annie Wood who is one of the Communications Division Supervisors. Several of the SROs fielded questions from the kids as well. It was an awesome day!
