Thursday and Friday wrapped up Junior Deputy Camp Session 2. Thursday's class was hosted at the Desoto County Search and Rescue building in Nesbit.
Search and Rescue Personnel showed them how they use their diving equipment and boats to locate people and things in the water.
Deputies Foster and Taylor told them what the DUI deputies do to take impaired drivers off the road to keep them safe. They used the Fatal Vision goggles to simulate how alcohol impairs drivers.
Sgt. Joe Weatherly and K9 Sting located hidden drugs and showed them how they apprehend suspects.
Friday was graduation day. The kids enjoyed a visit to the Sheriff's Department Aviation Unit hangar. Major Steve Palmer told them all about the Sheriff's Department TH-67 helicopter. He and Deputy Joey Smith took the helicopter up for a demonstration flight.
They heard from Deputy B. Grossman and Deputy B. Royal about the Honor Guard Unit. They had a competition to see which student could be the best Honor Guard Deputy.
The session ended with their graduation ceremony, with cookie treats served to them by some members of the DCSD Volunteers in Partnership with the Sheriff program.
