Coahoma falls short at Copiah-Lincoln
The CCC women's basketball team had won three of its past four away games entering Thursday night's matchup at Co-Lin.
Copiah-Lincoln led 12-7 at the end of the opening quarter. CCC guard Tiara Abron scored seven points in the second quarter, which led the team. Coahoma trailed by as many as 13 points in the second quarter, but the Co-Lin lead was 27-18 at halftime.
CCC freshman guard Janiya Jones shined in the third quarter with 14 points, while going 5-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-5 from 3-PT range. The Lady Tigers recorded a 13-2 run in the third quarter, which tied the game 31-31. Going into the fourth quarter; the Lady Wolves led 41-35.
Coahoma tallied 19 points in the fourth quarter, but CCC fell short 62-54.
Jones led all scorers with 23 points to go along with seven rebounds. Tiara Abron was Coahoma's second-leading scorer with 11 points, while contributing eight rebounds and five assists.
Elishia Wilson, the reigning MACCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, recorded seven points and 11 rebounds.
Tiana Abron, Sequoia Bouldin, Jamyia Bowen, Mackenzie Carter, and Jamea Smith also scored for CCC.
The Lady Tigers are now 9-6 (5-3 MACCC) this season; Copiah-Lincoln is 14-5 (4-4 MACCC).
Coahoma's next game is slated for Monday, Feb. 6, at 6:00 p.m. in a home game against East Mississippi. Isaiah Butler, a former CCC assistant coach, will be bringing the Lady Lions to the Pinnacle for the first time in his EMCC tenure.
