Census Bureau: 1.5% of people in Quitman County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 6,327 citizens living in Quitman County in 2021, 98.5% said they were only one race, while 1.5% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Quitman County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was African American, comprising 72.9% or 4,614 individuals. Following them, white accounted for 25.4% and totaled 1,607 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Quitman County is 0.9% lower than the state average, which stands at 2.4%.
