On Thursday, the CCC football team hosted Northeast Mississippi on Sophomore Night at James E. Miller Stadium.
NEMCC tallied a field goal on the opening possession of the game. Coahoma responded with a 20-touchdown pass from Marquis Willis to Livingston Coaty on the ensuing possession. The Maroon and White led 6-3 with 6:55 remaining in the first quarter.
Northeast Mississippi scored a touchdown off a six-yard run by QB Carter Putt with 25 seconds to play in the opening quarter. NEMCC led 10-6.
In the middle of the third quarter, NEMCC had the football at the CCC 1-yard line on 3rd and goal. Coahoma's defense stood tall with a goal line stand as Northeast turned the ball over on downs.
A fumble by CCC on the ensuing play was recovered by Northeast in the end zone for a touchdown. Coahoma trailed 17-6 with 4:32 left in the third quarter.
With 1:41 to go in the final quarter; Willis connected with Brandon Harris on a 35-yard TD pass on 4th and 23. CCC's two-point conversion attempt was successful as Willis scored on a QB draw.
Coahoma's onside kick was unsuccessful, and Northeast Mississippi won the game 17-14.
CCC is now 3-5 (1-4 North) this season; Northeast is 5-3 (3-2 North).
The Maroon and White play at Itawamba in the Tigers' next game on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m.
