The Tigers fall short at No. 24 Itawamba
The Coahoma Tigers entered Tuesday night having won four of their past five games. CCC's opponent, No. 24 Itawamba, entered the matchup with an overall record of 13-1.
CCC's scoring in the first half was balanced with Jaqai Murray leading the team in points scored with six. The Tigers trailed 39-27 at halftime.
Murray, Kei Johnson, and Dontae Prescott were the only players who scored for Coahoma in the second half. The trio combined to register 37 points in the half. Johnson led all scorers in the second half with 15 points, which included three 3-pointers. The final score was 78-64 in favor of ICC.
Johnson led Coahoma in scoring and rebounding with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double. CCC guard Dontae Prescott tallied 16 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
Jaqai Murray had a productive night with 16 points for the Maroon and White. CCC was led in assists by O'zhell Jackson, who tallied nine.
The Tigers are now 9-4 (2-1 MACCC) this season; Itawamba is 14-1 (4-0 MACCC). The matchup marked CCC's second away game in conference play.
Coahoma's next game is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Pinnacle as the Tigers will host Meridian. That matchup is slated for 6:00 p.m.
