2019-2020: What were the backgrounds of Tate County students?

Of the 3,913 students enrolled in Tate County schools in 2019-2020, 51.5% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Tate County students.

This is a 0.2% decrease from the previous school year.

Strayhorn Elementary School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Tate County schools showed 51.5% students were White, 41.1% were Black or African American, 4% were Hispanic or Latino and 0.6% were Two or More Races.

There are nine schools in Tate County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
