Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Quitman County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 973 students enrolled in Quitman County schools in 2019-2020, 96.3% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Quitman County students.

This is a 1.1% increase over the previous school year.

Quitman County Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Quitman County schools showed 96.3% students were Black or African American and 1.6% were White.

There are three schools in Quitman County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
