2020-2021: What were the backgrounds of Marshall County students?

Of the 3,876 students enrolled in Marshall County schools in 2020-2021, 58% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Marshall County students.

This is a 0.6% decrease from the previous school year.

Holly Springs Primary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Marshall County schools showed 58% students were Black or African American, 26.1% were White, 9.7% were Hispanic or Latino and 1.1% were Two or More Races.

There are 12 schools in Marshall County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
