Of the 34,067 students enrolled in DeSoto County schools in 2020-2021, 46.1% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among DeSoto County students.

This is a 1.6% decrease from the previous school year.

Hernando High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of DeSoto County schools showed 46.1% students were White, 38.9% were Black or African American, 8.3% were Two or More Races, 4.1% were Hispanic or Latino and 1.1% were Asian.

There are 38 schools in DeSoto County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
