Black had the largest percent of student body in Marshall County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 44.4% of the 2,758 students enrolled in Marshall County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 2.1% increase over the previous school year.

Byhalia Elementary School (Grades K-4) had the highest enrollment in the district with 569 students.

A snapshot of Marshall County School District schools showed 44.4% of students were Black, 34.5% were white, 14.8% were Hispanic, and 3.4% multiracial.

Marshall County School District roughly covers eight schools within Marshall County and has a main office in Byhalia.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
